Ovechkin will miss the all-star game to rest

The best scorer in the NHL this season, wishes to enjoy the week of rest of the Caps — which follows the weekend of the stars — in order to be in good shape for the second half of the season.

Alexander Ovechkin said that he didn’t participate in the next all-star game, in San Jose, to rest, a decision that will result in an automatic suspension of a meeting.

The Washington Capitals have made the announcement on Wednesday. The team has indicated that the best scorer in the NHL this season, wishes to enjoy the week of rest of the Caps — which follows the weekend of the stars — in order to be in good shape for the second half of the season.

“My body needs to rest,” said the captain of the club after training on Wednesday. The attacker, 33-year-old has played all 33 games of his own this season and leads the Capitals with 45 points.

The last meeting of the Caps before the all-star game will take place on the 23rd of January, in Toronto. The classic annual is held on the 26 January, and the Caps do not play before the 1st day of February, against the Calgary Flames.

Deputy commissioner Bill Daly has confirmed that Ovechkin will miss the meeting prior to the classic, or the one after. The NHL has recently decided to impose a mandatory one-game suspension to players who are not injured who decide not to participate in the weekend star.

The supporters were elected Ovechkin captain of the Metropolitan section.
