Several measures of emergency accommodation for the homeless

Montreal has 957 seats emergency shelter to accommodate men, women and youth in a situation of homelessness, or 32 additional beds compared to last year.

The return of the cold fear for the health of homeless people in Montreal, but a number of measures to help winter have been put in place.

The integrated Center for academic health and social services Centre-Sud-de-l’île-de-Montréal, the City of Montreal and their community partners are mobilized, so that no homeless people will be forced to spend the night outside in cold weather.

Special measures are planned to maintain and coordinate an offer of emergency accommodation sufficient to meet the daily demand. Additional services have also been created for people who do not use these resources.

For men, the 752-seat emergency accommodation, made available thanks to the collaboration of the House of the Father, and of the Welcome hall Mission, the Old Brewery Mission, Projects autochtones du Québec and of the CAP St-Barnabé.

Regarding the emergency shelter for women, 129 seats are divided between the Pavillon Patricia Mackenzie, the Street of The women, le Chaînon, Projects autochtones du Québec, the Passages, the CAP St-Barnabé, Shelter of hope, Salvation Army and the House Margarita. In addition, the CAP St-Barnabé offers a 16-bed respite day for women in difficulties.

For young people, 64 places of emergency accommodation are available at the Refuge des jeunes de Montréal, the Bunker of the body In the street and En Marge 12-17.

In addition, the Center of respite and sobering up can get 12 men and women in a situation of homelessness excluded shelters, resources, accommodation or in a crisis situation.
